Wisdom Tooth Removal

An average person has four third molars. Two on the lower and two on the upper arches. Sometimes, it needs a surgery to remove it but sometimes there is no need of surgery. It mainly depends on the position of the tooth in the bone, if it is not erupted fully, then one may need to do surgery and trim the bone and then remove the tooth. Depending on the position of the tooth, it can be a mesio angular, disto angular, vertical or horizontally impacted. Third molar can erupt at any age after 18, few patients have reported of third molar issues in their late 30s or even late 40s.

Many times, the skin over the third molar gets traumatise and one can see swelling along with ulceration over the tooth which leads to severe pain and reduced mouth opening. It is called as Pericoronitis.

One may suffer from sleepless nights because of severe pain and burning sensation and the pain increases when one lies down his head because of increase of blood circulation in the head.

In few cases, the pain is felt in the complete affected side. If there is only Pericoronitis, then one may not need to remove his wisdom teeth but can go ahead with lasers to just remove the skin overlying the tooth. It is a very comfortable procedure as there is very minimal bleeding with a quick recovery no sutures needed and a permanent cure.
